Paul and Sunny lead the team at Dreamland Safari Tours, yes, but did you know they have more than a lifetime of world class climbing, mountaineering and endurance adventures under their belt?
Paul once famously said no to National Geographic when they wanted to send Jon Krakauer (yeah, the same one who wrote Into Thin Air and Under the Banner of Heaven) along to document one of his expeditions. Sunny has set speed records around the world.
This November, as part of Dreamland’s 25th anniversary celebration, they’ll bring the stories that they each have told on stages across the globe to the Dreamland community in Kanab.
Two Friday nights at the Dreamland Office with films, stories and a seat saved for you. Free, 7 pm.
On October 19, 2026, Paul successfully climbed Yosemite’s El Capitan at 66 years of age. For many, this would be the achievement of a lifetime; for Paul, it’s just another visit to his favorite piece of rock… and his 43rd (!!) successful ascent of this iconic 3,000ft granite wall. Come hear all about Paul’s life of climbing and adventure, much of it rooted in Yosemite Valley.
Also… thirty years after a climb that defined his life (the one that Jon Krakauer was teed up to document, but then didn’t because Paul and his climbing partner didn’t want the hubbub that comes with a National Geographic assignment), Paul went back to Baffin Island. This time, Sunny was there to film it. Come watch Land of Giants, the short film about that trip, and then hear Paul tell the rest of it in person.

Expect big granite, a long gap between the first trip and the second, and honest talk about risk, getting older, and what climbing still means to someone who has never stopped doing it.
Sunny has finished the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail race, across mountain ranges and through extended periods of -50F and colder, while carrying everything she needed on her back and in her sled. This past July she took on the opposite extreme: on foot through the heart of the Grand Canyon, east to west, in 115-degree heat, accompanying Australian water advocate Mina Guli through the hardest stretch of her 2,000-mile run down the Colorado River. Shortly thereafter, she was climbing the Matterhorn amidst a team of all women on behalf of the Summit Scholarship, the non-profit that she started to help more women and girls experience the transformative power of big outdoor adventure.
Hear stories from the depth of Alaska and the bottom of the Grand Canyon, how you plan a route where being more than a few hundred yards from water can kill you, and what the Iditarod has taught Sunny about it.

At the start of the Iditarod Trail Invitational, with everything you need for the next days in the sled.
Saturday, November 7, 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the Best Friends Roadhouse in Kanab. Live music from Gundy & The Gurus, a food truck, drinks, the whole Dreamland crew, and the live drawing for our 25th anniversary giveaway. Plan your trip around it. It's free, and we'd love to see you there.
RSVP for the party →Dreamland Safari Tours is celebrating twenty-five years of sending people out into the desert. These two nights are about what Paul and Sunny do when they’re not running a small business.
